Microsoft’s Wave 1 2026 release for Dynamics 365 Business Central arrives in April 2026. As always, it brings a long list of updates. But for most businesses, the challenge isn’t keeping up with features - it’s understanding what actually matters and when to act.
In our recent What’s New in Business Central webinar, we focused on Wave 1 from a practical, real‑world perspective. Not looking at what’s new for the sake of it but how changes land in day‑to‑day operations, and how businesses can stay in control.
In short, Wave 1 is about evolution, not disruption. It continues a clear Microsoft pattern of incremental improvement rather than dramatic change.
The Wave 1 features we’re excited about
Microsoft have announced 59 new and updated features as part of Business Central Wave 1 2026. Rather than trying to cover all of them, our webinar focused on the areas that stood out from a practical, day‑to‑day perspective: those features most likely to reduce operational friction, improve confidence, and quietly make life easier for users.
Smarter Copilot agents (that actually help)
Wave 1 is continuing Microsoft’s shift from “AI assistant” to AI that does real work. Highlights include expanded Payables Agent capabilities (including improved visibility of processed emails), a dedicated task pane to manage tasks from all agents, and the ability to review agent‑generated content directly on pages.
“This wave shows Copilot maturing from insight to execution.”
Better visibility and confidence in data
Wave 1 also introduces richer item insights using advanced KPIs and summaries. Plus, there are usability improvements such as showing avatars for record creators/modifiers in lists. These aren’t just headline‑grabbing features. Rather, they support faster decisions and reduce the time spent second‑guessing the numbers.
Feature Management keeps getting better
Feature Management helps you see what’s coming, choose when optional features are enabled, and test safely in sandbox before anything reaches production. For teams responsible for stability, this matters as much as any individual feature.
“Control is becoming a feature in its own right.”
Under‑the‑hood improvements that set the tone
There are also improvements that users may never notice directly but will benefit from over time. These include the foundations for extending Copilot and ongoing platform consistency that makes future upgrades easier.
Why the Wave 1 2026 changes matter more than they look
Wave 1 2026 isn’t defined by a single headline feature. It’s shaped by a series of small, deliberate improvements that add up to a better day-to-day experience. They reduce unnecessary admin by cutting manual effort, surfacing clearer insights faster, and giving teams more control to introduce and test changes safely before they hit production.
"The best Wave features are the ones you stop noticing, because things just work."
The upgrade window most businesses underestimate
Wave 1 is released in April. Businesses, however, have five months in which to upgrade. You can choose to upgrade early, upgrade later, test first in sandbox, or adopt changes gradually. If you choose to ignore it completely, just know that Microsoft will eventually update you anyway. It is better to plan your upgrade and be prepared.
“Control the timing, rather than letting the timing control you.”
