Lodge Brothers is a seventh-generation, family-owned funeral director with over 240 years of history, 48 branches and around 170 employees. As its services expanded and compliance obligations increased, the finance systems underpinning the business began to limit visibility, efficiency and resilience.
To address this, Lodge Brothers partnered with Together Vision Technology (TVT) on a planned NAV upgrade to Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central. The outcome: Lodge now have a more automated, compliant and future-ready ERP platform.
From ageing NAV to a future-ready ERP platform
Lodge Brothers was running an older, on‑premises version of Microsoft Dynamics NAV that was approaching the end of Microsoft support. While familiar, the system relied heavily on manual processes. Group VAT reporting involved spreadsheets, approvals were managed via email, and reporting required data to be pulled from multiple sources before leadership could see a clear picture.
This fragmentation increased risk and consumed valuable finance time. The challenge was not replacing technology for the sake of it, but enabling ERP future readiness while protecting business continuity across a sensitive, people‑focused operation.

A practical NAV upgrade, designed around real outcomes
Because TVT already understood Lodge Brothers’ environment from previous engagements, the upgrade project focused on modernisation rather than disruption. The project retained what worked, while moving the finance platform to the cloud using Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central.
Key priorities for the upgrade included simplifying group VAT reporting, reducing manual processing, strengthening approval controls, and creating a platform capable of supporting future reporting and compliance needs.
The impact
Following the NAV upgrade, Lodge Brothers reduced the operational burden on its finance team. Group VAT reporting is now simpler and more reliable. Approval workflows are tighter and more transparent. Data from multiple systems has been consolidated into a single ERP platform.
Importantly, the move to Business Central has future‑proofed the finance environment. Automatic updates, cloud security and improved usability mean the system now supports both today’s requirements and tomorrow’s expectations.
Savings from the project were reinvested into enhanced reporting, helping leadership gain clearer insight across funeral services, memorials, prepaid plans and legal services.
